Module Overview

The module considers the theatre as a laboratory for the examination of particular perspectives, requiring specific approaches, practices, methods, research, experimentation and findings. This module will explore one or more approaches to or aspects of the processes of creating and presenting performance.

 

Prerequisites/Co-requisites
None.
Module Aims
  • To introduce students to one or more approaches to (or aspects of) the creation and presentation of performance (a, c, e, h)

     

  • To enable practical articulation of a creative response to a performance project (g)

     

  • To prepare students to create a clear, engaged and well-crafted performance that emerges from their involvement in and contribution to processes of making and showing performance (b, e)

     

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module students should be able to

 

 

  1. Identify key aspects of one or more approaches to or aspects of processes of making and showing performance within a specific context (A1, A2, B2)

     

  2. Engaging creatively in making and showing performance - as evidenced in both performance and presentation (B1, B3, C1, C2, C3)

     

  3. Prepare their own contribution in a creative project in relation to the overall direction of work and work to explore processes and in production (C1, C2, C3, D1, D2, D3, D4)

     

Module Content

The practical work may include a directed approach to theatre construction and will be led by a member of staff or visiting practitioner.  It will present students with a chance to consider and contribute specific aspects of performance and thereby prepare them for their own investigations in the dissertation project in the final year.

 

Methods of Teaching/Learning

The module will be delivered through a combination of workshop/rehearsals, as appropriate to the precise focus of the module in any given year.  The module may be delivered as one or more intensive periods of study or in combination of regular and intensive periods.
