Module Overview
This module will introduce students to techniques, considerations and expectations of acting for recorded media (e.g. TV/film/radio/podcast).
Prerequisites/Co-requisites
None.
Module Aims
  • To enable students to identify and engage creatively and imaginatively with techniques and conventions and behaviours of acting for recorded media (c, e, f, g, h)

     

  • To experience current and emerging professional practices in a specific field (a, b, c)

     

  • To consider the practical considerations of acting for a lens/microphone and for audiences of recorded media (e, f, g)

     

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module students should be able to

 

  • Identify and apply techniques and conventions of acting for camera/radio (A1, A2, A3, C1, C2, C3)

     

  • Respond creatively and imaginatively to conventions to communicate a convincing depiction of character for camera/radio (B1, C2, C3)

     

  • Create a recorded product to deadlines (D3)

     

Module Content

In this module, students will be introduced to techniques and conventions of acting for a particular genre of recorded media.  Students will be able to practise techniques relevant to the genre and to create performance in the context of one or more media forms.

The module will tend to focus either on a specific area of either camera or voice and this may alternate in different years of delivery.  In each case students will need to recognise the significance of acting for the specified form.

 

 

While not assessed for the filming/editing, students may be called on to record and edit scenes as part of the wider learning of the module.

 

 

Assessment may occur during recording, editing or playing of the final recording.  Assessment will recognise that editing will necessarily enhance a performance and it will focus on the pre-acting performance.
