End-of-module test 50%, Coursework 50%
In order to achieve the threshold standard for the award of credits for this module, the student must meet the following criteria related to the learning outcomes described above:
At a post-beginners level
Listening – understand and respond successfully to gist and detail of extracts on predictable topics.
Speaking – take part in a conversation on predictable topics and give a short presentation in the target language.
Reading – understand and respond successfully to gist and detail of simple on predictable topics.
Writing – Write messages and short letters on predictable topics.
The assessment strategy is designed to demonstrate the students’ achievement of the learning outcomes by setting oral and written tasks and tests. The assessment will be formative and summative.
The assessment methods include ongoing assessment by the tutor, taking into account the students’ contributions to class and oral work as well as their fulfilment of weekly homework tasks, which will comprise 50% of the mark, and an end-of-module test, also 50%, comprising a writing, reading, listening, oral and grammar element.
