Assessment Pattern

 Assessment: Individual assessment is composite of marks awarded for:

 

 

 

  • a 1000 word critical reflection on a methodological aspect of the  project, to be submitted in week 3 of the Spring Semester (20%)

     

  • the group  presentation, in week 6 of the Spring Semester (40%)

     

  • a research diary, in week 7 of the Spring Semester (20%)

     

  • a peer assessment component (20%).

Module Aims
The Group Research Project is designed to give students the opportunity to work with others on a research problem and thereby gain practical experience of collaborative research work.

Having completed this module students will have:

 

 

 

• gained experience of working on a research problem in a group situation

 

 

 

• had the opportunity to develop their social research skills in a fieldwork setting

 

 

 

• been given the chance to develop their presentation skills

 

 

 
Module Content

The group will decide on the topic or topics to be pursued in conjunction with the tutor. Ideally this will involve more than one research technique. The group will be responsible for the theoretical development of the research problem, the design of the research instruments and associated measures, the collection of data, the analysis of the data and making a presentation at the second residential weekend.
Methods of Teaching/Learning

In addition to making a presentation, students will be asked to keep a research diary.  This will be handed in at the end of the project. 

Assessment will take into account the accomplishments of the project and each student’s relative contribution.
