Module Aims

The aim of this module is to ensure that students
complete their degree with good analytical
skills that synthesise the theoretical and methods training received throughout the degree course. The module is designed to emphasise the ways in which sociological theory can be put to work in the research process, and can inform and illuminate approaches to analysis.

 

 

 

 

Learning Outcomes

Having completed the module, students should:

 

 

 

 

·        have developed their conceptual and analytical skills

 

 

 

 

·        be able to make use of sociological theory in analysis

 

 

 

 

·        be aware of the qualities of different types of data and various analytical approaches to them

 

 

 

 

Module Content

Thinking conceptually and methodologically about the process of research; developing and applying theoretical concepts in analysis; linking theory and data in analysis; using theory to frame research questions, to drive data gathering, and to enrich data analysis; examples and practice of various analytical approaches; reflexivity and ethics in analysis.
