Module Overview
This is a Level 3 module for Russian. It is taught in the target language, in Semester 2, three contact hours per teaching week. Attendance is compulsory.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites
Successful completion of HE2 Russian modules or equivalent
Module Aims
To gain language skills at upper-intermediate level. It builds on the knowledge and competence acquired during semester 1 and enables students to develop their competence in oral and written Russian.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will:
 
  • be able to communicate using a large variety of grammar structures and diverse vocabulary.
  • have developed their competence in spontaneous speech (immediate reactions to situations, holding coversations and discussions, expressing opinions)
  • have improved their reading and understanding
  • have improved their listening and understanding
  • accurate use of sufficient vocabulary in communication.
  • accurate use of grammatical structures in communication
Module Content
The following areas are indicative of topics to be covered:
 
  • culture, history, ecology, social life, inerpersonal relations, profession, everyday situations.
  • Each topic combines training in communication, comprehension and grammar.
  • various aspects of everyday life in Russia, as well as issues of Russian culture and society.
Methods of Teaching/Learning
Teaching will be delivered in a combination of lectures, seminars and workshops. There will be opportunities for class discussion, group work and peer evaluation. Further guidance for independent study will be provided by the class tutor. There will be opportunities for formative feedback on a practice presentation and from written and spoken tasks set as homework.
