1) one 2000 word coursework essay * [25%]
2) one 90 minute examination [75%]
* this will be a critical assessment of a psychological test of the student’s own choosing.

Module Aims |
The module aims to introduce students to the major approaches to individual differences and evaluate their contemporary relevance and applied value. |
|

Learning Outcomes |
By the end of the course, students should be able to critically evaluate each of the main approaches to normal and abnormal personality, and compare and contrast the main features of these approaches. Students should also bel able to take a critical approach to contemporary theories of intelligence and ability, and to consider the implications of individual differences research for applied areas of psychology. |

Genetic and enviromental influences on personality and intelligence; contemporary issues in individual differences; Freud and neo-Freudian developments; The trait approach to personality; evolutionary personality psychology; The humanistic approach to personality; Implications for education and counselling Contemporary approaches to intelligence; emotional intelligence; Intelligence and educational testing; Individual differences and interpersonal relationships. |
