Module Overview
This module will be taught in two parts.
1) Lectures will provide an understanding about the relationship between behaviour, cognition, emotions, and biology/neuroscience in a number of given topics.
2) Smaller tutorials will be given in order to design and analyse a biosychological experiment.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Biological Bases of Psychology 1. Co-requisite: All other Level 2 Psychology modules.
Module Aims
The module aims to build on the general introduction to Biological Bases of Psychology given in year 1 by addressing more specific topics.

The aim of this module is:
a) to provide an understanding of the relationship between behaviour, cognition, emotions, and biology/neuroscience in a number of specific topics.
b) to increase the knowledge about important principles and methodology of neuroscience.
c) to practically apply the biosychological knowledge in self-designed a research project.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students will have an appreciation of the many ways in which biopsychological research contributes to our human behaviour and cognition.  In addition, students will have applied biopsychological and research methods knowledge in a practical setting, i.e. they will have carried out an experiment and will have written it up in an experimental report.
Module Content
Lectures (11 x 2 hours)
After an introduction to the module, the lectures will be dedicated to looking at the biological bases of motivation, emotions, sexual behaviour, language and communication, learning and memory, attention, brain plasticity, sleep, mental disorder and psychopharmacology.

Tutorials (5 x 2 hour, biweekly)
Practical sessions were students will be required to carry out a small biosychological research project in groups.  Students have to design, run, analyse a biopsychological experiment over the course of 10 weeks.   At the end of the tutorials the students will write a report about their study.

11 X 2 hour lectures and Independent student reading
5 x 2 hour tutorials (run for four parallel groups) where students will design, run and analyze an biopsychological experiment.
