Module Aims
This module aims to:
  • Credit the student’s professional placement experience, as assessed by the student.
  • Assess the various aspects of the student’s acquisition of new skills and knowledge
Cognitive Skills
  • Construct reasoned argument, synthesise relevant information and exercise critical judgement.
  • Develop practical problem solving skills and compare academic and work place approaches to problem solving.
  • Reflect on their own learning and seek and make use of constructive feedback.
Transferable skills
  • Communicate effectively and fluently in speech and writing.
  • Operate effectively and efficiently in a working environment.
    Keep accurate records of new skills and knowledge
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
  • Communicate their understanding and attitudes towards their professional placement.
  • Demonstrate their acquisition of new skills and knowledge in written form.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of practical application of academic work undertaken.
  • Evaluate his or her own role in the organisation in the context of the role of the unit, department and/or organisation.
  • Evaluate the placement experience in terms of personal growth and development.
Module Content
At end of the placement the student is required to produce a 1,500-word report. In this report the student describes the nature of the work undertaken during the placement and evaluates the extent to which the broader aims of the work placement in the context the placement year and the degree were achieved.
