Module Aims
This module aims to:
  • Credit the student’s professional placement experience, as assessed by the workplace supervisor.
  • Assess the various aspects of the student’s acquisition of new skills and knowledge.
Cognitive Skills
  • Construct reasoned argument, synthesise relevant information and exercise critical judgement.
  • Reflect on their own learning and seek and make use of constructive feedback.
Transferable skills
  • Communicate effectively and fluently in speech and writing.
  • Operate effectively and efficiently in a working environment.
  • Keep accurate records of new skills and knowledge.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
  • Communicate their understanding and attitudes towards their professional placement.
  • Demonstrate their acquisition of new skills and knowledge to the workplace supervisor
Module Content
Two times during the work placement, co-ordinated with the tutor’s visit, the student’s workplace supervisor is asked to complete an Assessment Form which takes account of the student’s work to date, how the student is developing and in particular how oral, presentation, written and other workplace skills are demonstrated.
 
At the end of the placement the supervisor also completes a Final Report, which covers:
  • Quality of the work produced.
  • Workplace performance by reference to timekeeping, appearance, motivation, teamworking and other placement specific criteria.
  • Personal growth and development.
As part of the Final Report the supervisor assesses the overall performance of the student and grades the student’s overall performance on the following scale: ‘unsatisfactory’; ‘satisfactory’; ‘good’ and ‘very good’.
 
All reports will be signed off by the Placements Tutor, with regard to the reports filed by the Visiting tutor and the Student.
