Module Overview
This module provides an understanding of diabetes and obesity and current treatment.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites
Can be taken as a stand alone module.
Module Aims
To provide an update on clinical aspects of diabetes and obesity.  
To provide an update on new treatments for diabetes.  
To provide an insight into successful and unsuccessful drug development programmes in diabetes and obesity.
Learning Outcomes

Understand the clinical features of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and non alcoholic fatty liver disease

 

Understand the control of appetite and the role of surgery in obesity

 

Understand Metabolic Syndrome and Pre diabetes

 

Understand the chronic complications of diabetes

 

Understand current treatment of diabetes and be aware of issues related to some treatments

 

Gain an insight into successful and unsuccessful drug development programmes in diabetes and obesity.
Understand some of the research techniques used in studying diabetes and the effect of treatment
