A 20-minute reflective structured presentation analysing an aspect of patient care relevant to Oncology and the nursing interventions required (20%).

A written reflection considering the learning journey you have gone through in relation to an incident from your practice (80%) 1500 words

Module Aims
The aim of this module is to support flexible learning opportunities in order to develop independent learners who are able to address the complexities of modern health and social care policy and provision in an innovative manner.

Specific Aims

To enable registered health care professionals working within the general setting to increase their knowledge,understanding and clinical judgement in relation to caring for people with cancer. This module will allow practitioners to critically analyse practice in this area of health care.
Learning Outcomes
On completing this module the student should be able to:

Subject Knowledge and Understanding
• Identify learning needs and formulate an individualised, self-directed program of learning through the use of a personal development plan

Cognitive/intellectual skills
• Evaluate and develop their professional knowledge through ongoing reflection in and on practice relevant to the chosen area
• Critically discuss the validity of the chosen topic area in relation to their professional practice

Practical Skills
• Demonstrate the ability to link theory to practice in relation to the chosen topic area in order to demonstrate an understanding of evidence based practice

Key transferable skills
• Critically analyse the socio-political climate impacting on the chosen area of study

SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant Aetiology, Epidemiology and Pathophysiology
• Utilise current evidence-based knowledge to underpin clinical decision making and to evaluate interventions
• Demonstrate an understanding of different treatment modalities and the rationale behind their choice.
• Critically evaluate the variety of roles involved in caring for patients with cancer
• Analyse own professional role within the Oncology multi-professional team

Clinical Learning Outcomes
• Demonstrate an understanding of the patient pathway and critically analyse this in relation to the National Cancer Plan and Manual of Cancer Standards
• Ensure that all oncology practice is evidence based
• Demonstrate an understanding of the multi-professional team patient decision outcomes by attending relevant meetings. To experience the role of relevant health care settings involved in caring for cancer patients

Module Content
The academic content of the module concentrates on integrating theoretical and practical knowledge in order to enable the student to study a relevant area of healthcare relevant to their professional role. The content will be negotiated between the student and the specialist tutor. Key themes to be covered in relation to the specific subject are:
