A summative assessment comprising of:

A completed practice profile, demonstrating attainment, of the specific learning outcomes of the pathway.

An unseen examination paper lasting two and a half hours, conducted under formal examination conditions. Consisting of pathway specific, short answer questions, and case scenarios.

Module Aims
The aim of this module is to enhance practitioners’ understanding, knowledge and competence to manage and develop their practice within their own specialty. This should enable the practitioner to gain and exercise higher levels of clinical judgment, discretion and decision making and empower them to deliver high quality care that is evidence based and appropriate to the patients in their care
Learning Outcomes
On completing this module the student should be able to:
Subject knowledge and understanding
• Apply their specialist knowledge and understanding to manage and develop contemporary practice within their specialist area
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of local and national policy and practice developments within their own field of practice


Cognitive skills
• Enable effective care through thorough assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care
• Apply and critically analyse evidence in relation to the care of the patient in their specialist area
• Critically discuss the leadership and interdisciplinary roles and responsibilities within their
• Evaluate and develop their professional knowledge and skills through ongoing reflection in and on practice relevant to their chosen area.

Practical skills
• Practice independently and accountably within their area of practice
• Integrate comprehensive patient assessment and interpretative skills to achieve optimal patient care
• Manage therapeutic interventions and regimes
• Evaluate and respond effectively to rapidly changing situations

Module Content
The academic content of the module concentrates on integrating theoretical and practical knowledge to develop contemporary evidence based practice. This approach enables the student to manage his/her self and others in accordance with their Code of Professional Conduct. Each pathway has its own specialist content.
