Assessment Pattern |
The module will have a written assessment. This will take the form of a reflective learning log which will demonstrate the process and outcome of the student enquiry. It will also demonstrate application to practice of key concepts and theories of management and leadership.
Students will prepare two pieces of work:
The Elective Enquiry log,1,500 words
This should include:
Notification of elective placement sheet signed by the key external project contact and the module tutor
An introduction to the written work outlining the students motivation for choosing the experience and how and why it took place.
A diary of events the student has recorded through the duration of the experience. This should include a time line to demonstrate how the experience was organised.
In addition
Present an A3 poster. 1,500 words.

Module Aims |
The module will enable students to explore the issues relating to leadership and management of change in any adult care setting. There will be a four week period for students to undertake their own Elective Enquiry of an aspect of Adult Nursing or related practice. The student will explore skills and strategies required to function as a newly qualified staff nurse operating effectively within a multi disciplinary team. They will continue to develop the knowledge linked to the essential skills required for entry to the Adult register. |

Learning Outcomes |
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
Knowledge and understanding 1. apply evidence, policies and theories related to leadership and management to personal practice. 2. use clinical guidelines for best practice in the delivery of care provision. 3. analyse the fundamental principles of leadership, teamwork and management of change, delegation, negotiation and be able to apply these successfully in practice. 4. evaluate the impact of new and emerging health and social care initiatives on service delivery across a range of disciplines. 5. discuss how quality assurance and risk management are used in the promotion of a safe environment for care. 6. Consider and apply ethical principles to practice, and reflect
Cognitive skills 1. evaluate the evidence base for care using different sources of knowledge including the user’s voice 2. Recognise the importance of Quality Assurance mechanisms including quality guidelines and audit in the delivery of cost effective care.
Values and attitudes 1. debate clinical decisions drawing upon an understanding of relevant ethical perspectives 2. Reflect on personal attitudes and responses to managing individuals and teams as either colleagues or service users.
Key skills 1. take responsibility for own learning and begin to develop skills to enhance the learning of others 2. use the full range of sources of information in identifying evidence for best practice 3. demonstrate skill and sensitivity to the challenges associated with collaborative working
