Assessment Pattern
Formative: Students will give a presentation to their peers in order to share experiences of learning, based on the topic of the summative assessment. Feedback to the student will be given at this stage.
Summative: 1) Students will submit a 2000 word reflection that explores an aspect of care relating to a patient journey, and consider the implications for practice.
2) Completion of the appropriate practice portfolio (adult nursing, mental health nursing or child nursing) to demonstrate the achievement of the NMC standards of proficiency for entry to the register.

Module Aims
The module aims to provide overseas nurses who have undergone pre-registration training / education to undertake a period of supervised practice incorporating 20 days protected learning time in order to meet the required knowledge and skills competencies to enable registration with the NMC as competent to practice in the UK.
Learning Outcomes
On completing the module the student will be able to:
• Provide safe and effective practice in UK practice settings • Transfer previously learnt knowledge and skills to UK practice settings • Achieve the competencies and domains as agreed by the NMC • Engage in learning processes that encourage lifelong learning

The UK as a multicultural society Structure of the NHS and social care services Relationship between the NHS and the independent sector Changing the Heath care environment Practitioner- Client relationships Patient involvement in the NHS and Independent sectors Effective communication Code of professional conduct Accountability Legal framework within which care is delivered Ethical issues Clinical governance and how the Council’s standing contribute to this Research governance Evidence based practice Holistic care encompassing health promotion and education Multidisciplinary team working Numeracy skills Study skills
Methods of Teaching/Learning
20 days protected learning time as required by the NMC. 5 days structured observational visits (30 hours) 2 days self directed learning (12 hours) 13 days contact time (78 hours)
The students will be encouraged to identify their own learning styles and previous experiences of being taught. As the module progresses the students will be encouraged to adopt reflective styles, engage in discussion, critical questioning and debate. Study and information technology (IT) skills will be taught as part of this module. Students will be encouraged to consider strategies that foster self-directed learning and plan for life long learning.
