Module Aims

To enable students to prepare appropriately for a period of professional training.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
  • Describe the role of professional training within the degree course structure, the academic requirements of the course and administrative issues relating to training placements.
  • Articulate your own strengths and weaknesses within specific professional contexts.
  • Demonstrate your skills in presenting the professional self through interview and curriculum vitae writing techniques.
  • Describe and reflect upon the challenges and achievements of student colleagues returning from placement.
  • Critically appraise your own performance within an interview situation.

And you will have:

  • Prepared an appropriate curriculum vitae and used it in applying for placements
  • Received individual tutorial advice on aspects of professional training and professional development.
Module Content

Administrative issues relating to training placements, analysing personal strengths and weaknesses, writing and presenting CVs, the professional self, interview techniques and evaluation.

Methods of Teaching/Learning

15 hours, comprising lectures, seminars and tutorials, across semester one and the early part of semester two.
