Qualifying Condition(s)
As above
The recital presented after Easter should be a properly considered programme of items, and must demonstrate at least two different, contrasting styles.
In order to pass this module, the May performance itself must reach a pass standard.
Performances are assessed by a group of internal staff led by the Module Convenor. The recording of the May performance is sent to the external examiner for moderation.
* Recording option
1. At tutorial after assessment 1 you may wish to choose doing the recording option. It must be emphasised that this is only for students with considerable prior experience of recording work: those without such experience will probably not be equipped to deal with the requirements.
2. Recording process. Only one hour of actual recording time will be permitted (in addition to rigging, balancing and de-rigging). No editing of the end product will be allowed, though you will be able to select between a number of takes of each movement. Movements will need to be recorded in their entirety.
3. You may record solo or ensemble material in any style.
4. Submission. You will need to submit the following:
-
A CD of the entire hour of permitted recording time. This must include all material including silences, talk-back and out-takes, and must have been recorded continuously. You should identify which material you wish to be assessed by start time and duration. You may select between various complete takes of each movement/ piece. The total assessed material needs to be 8 to 10 minutes.
-
A copy of the music being recorded.
5. Expenses. All expenses must be borne by you
6. The recording may be done in any location (ie not necessarily within the Department) where professional standards of production can be assured. While your performance will not be judged on its technical merits or otherwise, you should remember that a poor recording may render a high quality performance unusable for assessment. It is your responsibility to ensure a high standard of production, and this may be best maintained by using Department facilities.
