Prerequisites/Co-requisites

A mark of 50% or more in the Research Seminar module and the selected modules in either Applied Musicianship or Musicology modules.

Module Aims

To allow in-depth scholarly treatment of an advanced research topic which would not otherwise be covered, at this level, in the course curriculum.

Learning Outcomes

An awareness of sophisticated research methodologies, with close contact with bibliographic resources and professional musicological literature; an understanding of a wide range of issues related to the particular topic, and the ability to identify the most important relevant issues for yourself; the ability to deal with complex ideas of various natures and to communicate them clearly and effectively in writing; the ability to organise and structure a large-scale written work; your technique of presenting written work; the necessary training and experience to those of you who are considering further postgraduate study.

Advice on overall form and topic of the dissertation; guidance on the location, selection, and interpretation of relevant source material; guidance on appropriate methodologies; advice on structuring and presentational concerns.
