Folio 90%              Written Document 10%                     
 
The folio and written document are to be submitted to the School Office by the date twelve months after registration for full time study or twenty four months after registration for part time study. You will be encouraged to continue to make recordings of your compositions under studio recording conditions whenever feasible.
 
Within your chosen style(s), you will be expected to demonstrate a measure of versatility as a composer by ensuring that your compositions are reasonably well contrasted. Account will also be taken of the clarity of your ideas as demonstrated in the presentation of your work. 
 
Students receive a written report on the final assessment prepared by the module convenor and agreed with the external examiner.
Module Overview
Prerequisites/Co-requisites

Admission to the PG Diploma/MMus programme, Applied Musicianship route.

Module Aims

To prepare and present a folio of compositions, demonstrating originality of style and a professional technique, and to provide, in support, a document that discusses selected aspects of your work.

Learning Outcomes

demonstrate qualities inherent in a composer with an emerging distinctive voice, including versatility and professional handling of instruments and voices; present your scores neatly, whether hand-written or computer-processed;
compile a collection of recordings of your work;
gain the necessary training and experience preparatory to further postgraduate study in composition;
develop the experience of providing written discussion of aspects of your style and technique.

Module Content

Tutorial guidance on expressing your own style, through a well developed technique, with results that should show a certain professionalism, and guidance on the writing of the supporting document.

Methods of Teaching/Learning

Up to 20 hours of individual tutorials
580 hours of private study (600 hours in total for the module) 

You and your tutor will work together to prepare a composition folio and a written document in support of your folio.
