Coursework 2: A composition derived from a harmonic template - 30%
Coursework 3: A compositional arrangement - 40%

Module Overview
This module seeks to provide composers with a professional level of technical skill in harmony, analysis, and orchestration.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites
Pre-requisite: EITHER Composition 2A OR HE2 Orchestration & Arrangement
Module Aims
The aims of this module are to:

• Develop professional skills in areas that support composition, including: harmony, analysis and orchestration.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module you should be able to:

• Analyse a range of musics from the perspective of compositional process.
• Identify, discuss and utilise a range of musical techniques used by 20th and 21st century musicians.
• Apply the techniques covered to your own compositional practice.
Module Content
The following is an indication of the likely content of the module:

• Explanation of the module’s requirements (including detailed guidance on the coursework components).
• Analysis of 20th and 21st century music.
• Discussion of approaches to harmony in a number of contemporary styles and genres.
• Discussion and analysis of compositional arrangements.
