Module Aims |
- To provide a detailed survey of changing perspectives in thought and aesthetics on music of the 18th & 19th century
- To study a number of key texts in 18th & 19th century musical aesthetics

Learning Outcomes |
Upon completion of this module you should be able to:
- describe and explain principal areas of thought that are characteristic of the period
- analyse the approaches taken by contemporaneous and subsequent writers about music, philosophy and aesthetics of the period
- construct detailed critiques of key texts in musical aesthetics in the 18th & 19th century.

10 two-hour lectures. The lecturer will introduce topics and texts which may, if appropriate, lead to class discussion. |
