Module Overview |
This module gives a historical, theoretical and aesthetic overview of how music is used in film, TV, documentary and other places where it plays a secondary, narrative role. Topics will include the functions of film music,music as a branding tool and the convergence of music and sound design. |

Module Aims |
• To develop an understanding of the functions of music in narrative film and television. • To develop an understanding of other forms of applied music. • To develop skills in analysing the role of music in commercial, narrative contexts. • To foster an understanding of the various roles and responsibilities in composing for film and TV.

Learning Outcomes |
By the end of this module, you should be able to:
• Explain and use a given model describing the functions of film music. • Describe the process of writing applied music to a commercial brief. • Explain how the choice of music affects the narrative arc. • Explain the relationships between the different roles in the writing of music for Film and TV. • Show how the convergence of music and sound have led to a new compositional aesthetic.
