Assessment Pattern

Coursework: (40% of the assessment) 

Assessment 1. A solo performance of not less than 5 minutes duration at a performance seminar in the latter part of the Autumn semester. Choice of repertoire to be agreed with the Module Convenor and instrumental tutor. (30%)
Reflective diary. A comprehensive listing of all performances done during the year, and written reflection on the work of the year (2,000 words, with a deadline of Friday, Week 11, Spring Semester.) (10%)

Examination: (60% of the assessment) 

Assessment 2. A solo performance of not less than 10 minutes duration at a lunchtime concert during the Spring semester. Choice of repertoire to be agreed with the Module Convenor and instrumental tutor. (60%)

Module Overview
Prerequisites/Co-requisites

 Prerequisites:
A pass of 60% or more in Level HE1 Solo Performance and the permission of the Programme Director.

Co-requisites:
This module must be taken in conjunction with Ensemble 2.

 
Module Aims

To enable you to develop your instrumental/vocal expertise appropriate to this level.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module you should be able to:
  • demonstrate enhanced instrumental/vocal ability
  • satisfy the Criteria of Assessment for Level HE2 Performance Modules
  • display the benefits of further experience as a solo performer
  • display enhanced independence of learning
  • meet short-term targets set by instrumental tutors.
Module Content

Individual tuition and experience in performance as soloist, (and/or accompanist as appropriate).

Methods of Teaching/Learning
  • frequent, regular lessons with your individual performance teacher
  • attendance at and participation in designated Performance Seminars
  • appearances as a soloist in departmental recitals
  • tutorials with the Module Convenor
  • participation in recording sessions.
