| Module Overview |
| The purpose of this module is to enable students to build on their knowledge of harmony and methods of analysis across a range of musical styles, in particular in more chromatic idioms. |

| Module Aims |
To develop further understanding of tonal harmony, including complex chromaticism. To develop further understanding of types of popular music harmony. To develop skills in applying analytical methods to a range of musical styles.

| Learning Outcomes |
By the end of the module you will be able to:
• Harmonise melodies in a range of musical styles, including chromatic idioms. • Analyse complex harmonic progressions in a range of musical styles.

| Module Content |
• Introduction to harmonic theories and ideas of complex chromaticism. • Demonstration of techniques in harmonising melodies and writing four-part harmony. • Introduction to methods of analysing chromatic harmony

| Methods of Teaching/Learning |
| Lectures will consist of a series of demonstrations by the lecturer, illustrated by recorded examples or at the keyboard. |
