Coursework 1: a harmony exercise - 20%
Coursework 2: a harmony exercise - 20%
Coursework 3: an analytical exercise - 60%

Module Overview
The purpose of this module is to enable students to develop knowledge of harmony and methods of analysis across a range of musical styles

Module Aims
• To develop an understanding of tonal harmony.
• To develop an understanding of types of popular music harmony.
• To develop skills in applying analytical methods to a range of musical styles.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module you will be able to: 

• Harmonise melodies in a range of musical styles.
• Analyse harmonic progressions in a range of musical styles.

Module Content
• Introduction to harmonic theories.
• Demonstration of techniques in harmonising melodies and writing four-part harmony.
• Introduction to methods of harmonic analysis.
Methods of Teaching/Learning
Lectures will consist of a series of demonstrations by the lecturer, illustrated by recorded examples or at the keyboard.
