Module Aims |
To equip students with the skills required for effective academic study of music at tertiary level.
To enable students to develop a basic level of skill on a keyboard instrument.

Learning Outcomes |
Upon completion of this module you should be able to:
- Undertake written assignments in a number of music-related genres (programme notes, concert publicity material, essay plan, etc.)
- Use accurately the citation and reference model set forth in the departmental citation model
- Take concise but comprehensive notes of lectures, meetings, etc.
- Work effectively within a team
- Demonstrate an enhanced skill at a keyboard instrument in a variety of styles
- Demonstrate an understanding of chord charts and their realisation
- Read and play with some fluency from two staves of music in both treble and bass clefs
- Satisfy the Criteria of Assessment for the keyboard portion of the module, and show an enhanced skill at critical listening and making musical judgments

Module Content |
- Writing skills in a number of music-related genres
- Effective note-making
- Time management
- Team skills
- Keyboard tuition in small groups only, where students are required to contribute to the learning process and assessment of other students; groups will normally consist of 5 students or fewer

Methods of Teaching/Learning |
A combination of one- and two-hour academic lectures, to be delivered over the course of the academic year. 10 keyboard lessons, to be delivered over the course of the academic year. |
