| This module introduces you to a range of compositional techniques whilst giving you the freedom to employ them in your own, developing style. |

To initiate the development of your compositional style, within the context of practical opportunities offered by the Department. |

| Learning Outcomes |
By the end of this module you should be able to:
- demonstrate some compositional technique above A-level
- demonstrate the potential for developing an individual style
- demonstrate the ability to write idiomatically for voices and instruments
- organise, rehearse and execute performances of your own compositions

- The study of a number of set works and compositional techniques
|

| Methods of Teaching/Learning |
- 10 one-hour lectures in the Spring semester, and individual tutorials as required.
- Timetabled performance sessions for each of the two coursework pieces
