Module Overview |
This module allows students to build on the knowledge and skills, gained in Documentary Practice I and develop skills and techniques in presenting ideas and analysis in the form of a video documentary. |

Prerequisites/Co-requisites |
50% or above for MFC1009 and a pass mark in Documentary Practice I. |

Module Aims |
- To develop students understanding of developing structure and polemic in documentary production
- To develop students awareness of the context in which documentary production takes place
- To develop students understanding of the post production process including preparation for differing distribution platforms
- To allow students to embody their theoretical and analytical understanding of the documentary form in practice
- To allow students to develop skills of responsibility and teamwork to a high level

Learning Outcomes |
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1) Demonstrate a sound understanding of working with current video location equipment including cameras, sound recording equipment, lighting equipment and editing software
2) Demonstrate an awareness of a range of considerations associated with fact based video production including, permissions and clearances, copyright issues and ethical considerations
3) Demonstrate an in depth understanding of differing approaches to documentary production and how the documentary form can be used to present ideas and analysis
4) Demonstrate an awareness of the differing contexts of documentary production and an ability to develop production strategies to specific criteria
Take a complex project from concept to realisation working effectively as a member of a production team |

The Right Pitch: Exploring documentary distribution platforms and tailoring an idea for specific outlets
Interview Techniques for Documentary: The role of the interview plus pre-interview research and preparation
Re-creating reality: The ethics and techniques of re-construction and re-enactment
Commentary in documentary: methods and meanings plus using the of the voice over tool
Industry requirements for distribution: (bars, tone and clocks; exporting for sound sweetening; grading; aspect ratios and compression for web distribution)
