Module Overview
This module examines the contemporary film industry in Hollywood and .  We look comparatively at how a film gets from idea to screen and the various factors involved in producing, distributing and marketing a film.  Where possible, lectures will include visits from current film practitioners and/or field trips to relevant events and institutions.

None.
Module Aims
  • To develop an awareness of institutional and economic contexts in which film is produced, distributed and exhibited
  • To develop an understanding of national and international economic and policy structures of film production
To prepare students for placements or professional employment within the film and related industries by providing a knowledge of the context in which they will work
Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module students will have developed:

 

 

  • An insight into the financial and organisational structure the British and American film industries.

     

  • An understanding of the different stages of film production, distribution, exhibition and marketing.

     

  • An understanding of the factors that affect a film’s success in the marketplace.

     

  • An awareness of the relationship between economics and media content.

     

  • An understanding of how the film industry works and the various roles available.
