Module Overview

This module is designed to build on key practical skills in media production and enable students to link practical work with academic and theoretical considerations.  Students will develop their understanding of production processes and practical skills necessary to bring a concept to realisation as a finished video and encouraged to embody their theoretical and analytical understanding in practice through hands on production work.

Module Aims

To provide an opportunity for students to develop their understanding of the processes and practical skills necessary to bring a concept to realisation as a finished time-based media production

 

 

• To introduce students to a range of considerations associated with video production including basic copyright issues

 

 

·         To introduce students to the basics of exhibition, distribution and project promotion

 

 

• To allow students to embody their theoretical and analytical understanding of media and communication in practice

 

 

• To allow students to develop skills of responsibility and teamwork to a high level

 

 

Learning Outcomes

·         A developing understanding of camera, and sound recording equipment with an awareness of how to work with depth of field, colour and composition to achieve desired effects

 

§         An awareness of basic editing techniques including an understanding of three point editing and file management

 

 

·         An awareness of copyright issues in the video production environment.

§         The ability to demonstrate an analytical understanding of media and communication in a practical form

 

 

§         The ability to work as a member of a team to take a collaboratively conceived project from concept to realisation

 

 

§         The ability to exhibit and promote their work effectively

Beyond Point and Shoot Understanding lenses and communication through use of depth of field

 

Planning tools and professional practice Collaborative planning, the story board and creative aids in film development; copyright considerations; permissions and clearances

 

Sound Basics

 

Field mixing; boom operation and the relationship between picture and sound recording

 

Post Production

 

Basic principles of three point editing, understanding digital asset management, preparing off-line work for professional finishing

 

Exhibition and Promotion

 

Finding outlets for production work and organising a promotional event
