Module Overview

This module is designed to introduce students to key practical skills in media production in the context of a degree programme, which is primarily academic and theoretical in focus.  Students will be introduced to the production processes and practical skills necessary to bring a concept to realisation as a finished video and encouraged to embody their theoretical and analytical understanding in practice through hands on production work.

Module Aims

To introduce students to a range of considerations associated with video production including an awareness of the filmmakers code of conduct

 

 

To introduce students to the processes and practical skills necessary to bring a concept to realisation as a finished time-based media production

To allow students to embody the theoretical and analytical understanding of media and communication in practice

 

Learning Outcomes

·         A sound basic understanding of camera, and sound recording equipment with an awareness of how to work with exposure, perspective and composition to achieve desired effects

 

·         An awareness of basic editing techniques and the ability to build a multi-track audio visual sequence using state of the art editing software

§         An awareness of the filmmakers code of conduct and a basic health and safety considerations

 

§         The ability to demonstrate an analytical understanding of media and communication in a practical form

 

§         The ability to take a simple independently conceived project from concept to realisation
