Module Overview
Enterprise Information Management (EIM) concerns itself with the tools, techniques and operations that integrate the data and processes required for management information systems. Given the widespread adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP) for EIM, a large part of this course concerns itself with the design, implementation and use of the market leader in ERP systems and SAP
Prerequisites/Co-requisites

None

Module Aims

The aim of this module is to give practicing and future managers a full understanding of the development, position and role of EIM within firms and strategy, and the use of ERP to achieve excellent EIM.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

  • Better understand and reflect upon EIM within firms
  • Operate the basic functionality of a large, representative ERP system.
  • Understand how an EIM system integrates all aspects of the business, particularly accounting, finance, HR and operations management.
  • Understand the benefits and problems of ERP implementation.

The topics covered are the following

  • An introduction to EIM
  • SAP Fundamentals
  • A hands-on introduction to the SAP user interface
  • Management of production planning with SAP
  • Financial management and accounting using SAP
  • Management of supply chains using SAP
  • Fundamentals of data warehousing and business intelligence
  • Business Intelligence with SAP
  • Design and implementation of EIM projects
  • Success factors for EIM projects
  • Strategic use of EIM
Methods of Teaching/Learning

The teaching and learning methods include:

  • 18 hours of in class experience and training with SAP
  • A further 18 hours of specific classes and sessions concerned with ERP
  • Personal study
