Module Overview

The module is designed to provide an opportunity for students to explore tourism development and management strategies at the level of the destination by way of theoretical discussions and practical exercises.

Module Aims

The aim of this module is to explore the theories of destination development and management strategies.  Students will carry out a piece of field-based work which will allow them to critically evaluate tourism development and management at a destination. 

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students will be able to: 
·               Appreciate the role and significance of tourism in a particular tourism destination. (K,C) 
·               Critically evaluate models and theories of tourism destination development. (K,C) 
·               Critically evaluate destination management strategies. (K,C) 
·               Carry out a resident attitude survey. (K,C,T)
·               Suggest reasoned strategies to destination development and management issues. (C,K,P,T)
