Module Overview
This module is designed to accommodate workplace supervisor evaluation of student development and performance on placement. Assessment is based on two reports, one completed in mid-placement, one at the end of the student’s placement.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites
Module Aims
This module aims to:

  • Monitor student personal and professional development throughout the placement;
  • Assess student acquisition of new skills and knowledge;
  • Support student progress by appropriate training and supervision;
  • Assist students in developing a personal record of achievement.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their academic studies;
  • Operate effectively and efficiently in a working environment;
  • Discuss their duties and responsibilities with the workplace supervisor in the target language;
  • Demonstrate newly acquired skills and knowledge to the workplace supervisors;
  • Translate constructive feedback into personal and professional development;
  • Maintain a record of achievement.
Module Content
Twice during the student’s work placement, usually co-ordinated with the tutor’s visit, the workplace supervisor is asked to assess the student’s performance.

After approximately the first half of the placement, the supervisor completes a mid-placement form which accounts for the student’s performance up to date. Assessed are the following:

  • Quality of work
  • Student performance in terms of appearance, reliability, timekeeping, and motivation;
  • Acquisition and development of key skills such as time-management, spoken and written communication, organisational skills, and teamwork.
  • Personal growth and development.
 At the end of the placement, the workplace supervisor completes a second form, assessing the same qualities again to identify areas of student development and improvement. The form is accompanied by a written report, summarising the student’s overall performance on placement, and commenting on their progress and achievements as well as their personal and professional development.
