Module Aims
By the end of this course, successful students will have learned about the issues of contemporary German film comedies, such as the German relationship with its Nazi past, Gender relations, the fall of the Wall and reunification.
Learning Outcomes
Module Content
Students will view films by Doris Dörrie (Männer, 1985), Helmut Dietl (Schtonk 1992), Detlev Buck (Wir können auch anders, 1992), Wolfgang Becker (Das Leben ist eine Baustelle,1997), and Leander Haussmann (Sonnenallee, 1999, Herr Lehmann, 2003) and discuss them with regards to their film aesthetics and their socio-historical significance.
Methods of Teaching/Learning
The films will be watched and discussed in class, in part as student-led presentations
