| Module Overview |
All final year students undertake a mandatory project, leading to a project report and oral examination, under the supervision of a member of staff. The project may take any one of a number of different forms, but is in general designed to explore the students’ ability to undertake an original investigation at a technical level appropriate to final year studies. Laboratory work, design, analysis, synthesis, computing and information processing may be represented in varying proportions.
Project allocation is based on the projects proposed by staff or industrial sponsors and project type and subject area preferences indicated by students. All projects have a designated Principal Supervisor. |

| Completion of the progress requirements of Level HE2. |

| Module Aims |
To provide an opportunity for each student to conduct an individual project requiring the completion of a defined task to a given deadline and involving analytical, practical and interpersonal skills. |

| Learning Outcomes |
Each student should have demonstrated that he/she has developed the capability for individual investigative study and the ability to complete a task under limited supervision.
They should also have improved their ability to prepare formal reports and presentations and respond to questioning of their methods and conclusions. |

| Methods of Teaching/Learning |
Independent study under the guidance of a staff supervisor.
The module comprises 300 hours of independent learning and supervision.
Assessment is through interim report (20%), final report (50%), continuous assessment of project performance (15%), and presentation and defence (15%). Normally, the interim report must be submitted in the first week of the Spring Semester. |
