Module Overview
An introduction (with some examples of applications) to the fundamental theory of Control Systems Engineering.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites
Completion of the progress requirements of Level HE2
Module Aims
To extend the knowledge of classical linear feedback control to systems design concepts
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
  • design and analyse control systems which may be encountered in mechatronic products and industrial systems
  • analyse, model and predict control system performance from the problem specification.
Module Content
Control system design concepts
Control system simulation (in frequency and time domain) using Matlab-SIMULINK Frequency response methods for dynamic performance. Polar diagrams, Bode diagrams
Stability. Stability margins from frequency response diagrams
Basic control systems using three-term PID controllers
