| Module Aims |
- To provide an introduction to the various technologies behind the visible face of the World Wide Web.
- To make students aware of the possibilities and pitfalls when using web-based approaches for information distribution and business.
- To provide students with an appreciation of the more important parameters to consider when selecting web-based solutions to real world problems.

| Learning Outcomes |
On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
- Understand the technology used to deliver modern up to date World Wide Web sites.
- Constructively discuss, at a managerial and technical level, the advantages and disadvantages of the various techniques available for distributing information and carrying out business transactions via the World Wide Web.

- HTML elements, HTML attributes, characters and colours (continuous assessment: HTML)
- Dynamic HTML
- Cascading style sheets (CSS), JavaScript & the Document Object Model (DOM), XHTML (cont. ass: DHTML)
Extensible Markup Language (XML)
- XML elements and attributes, XML documents, application-specific XML (cont. ass: XML)
Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL)
- XSLT example, XSLT grammar, XPath (cont. ass: XSL)
XML Schemas
- Document type definintions (DTDs), W3C XML Schemas, RELAX NG (cont. ass: DTD/XSD/RNG)
Introduction to Dreamweaver (coursework: Music Shop)
Introduction to e-commerce
- Creating an e-commerce site, adding a product line, choosing the look-and-feel
Blogging
- What are weblogs, blogging tools, business blogs
Syndication
- What is syndication, newsreaders, developing your own feed
