Module Content

SIGNAL PROCESSING     (30hours)     (JC)

[01-05] Review of time-frequency relationships: convolution, Fourier transforms, autocorrelation, sampling, spectrum of sampled signal, aliasing, sampling theorem. The Z transforms and relationships.

[06-13] Review of analogue filter types: Butterworth, Chebyshev, elliptic functions. Design of IIR digital filters: bilinear Z-transforms, impulse invariant method, mirror-image polynomial filters. Design of FIR digital filters: linear phase filter design, windowing.

[14-18] The discrete Fourier transform: spectral leakage, zero filling, auto-and cross-correlation, the FFT and implementations.

[19] Wavelet transforms

[20-23] Decimation and interpolation. Multirate filtering. Polyphase filters

[24-26] Sources of noise in digital signal processing: quantisation noise, round-off noise, coefficient truncation.  A/D converters.

[27-30] Applications of digital signal processing.
