Module Overview
This module helps first-year students to begin to develop skills in design and technical presentation, along with other skills required by the professional engineer.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites

None

Module Aims

Professional engineers need to communicate technical concepts to fellow professionals and the broader community. This course aims to develop the individual in the skills needed to deliver professional Documentation and technical Presentations. The course also provides a preliminary introduction to organisation and team working. The level 1 course provides the foundation for level 2 EDPS where these ideas will be consolidated and expanded.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module the students should be able to:

 

(i)                independently locate and retrieve engineering and other technical information

 

(ii)              write formal technical reports and documentation;

 

(iii)            understand a technical design and be able to communicate their own designs to others;

 

(iv)            understand the elements of good data analysis and presentation;

 

(v)              understand the principles of time management;

 

organise a professional meeting.
