Module Aims

This module aims 

  • to provide an introduction to the study of macroeconomic theory and the theory of macroeconomic policy at an advanced level
Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module you should:

  • Have gathered sufficient knowledge and technique to enable them to analyse macroeconomic issues in a mature manner
  • Understand the approaches of different schools of thought
  • Be aware of areas of agreement and those of remaining controversy
  • Be prepared for further study, research and for practical application of their macroeconomic abilities

     

 

 

 

 
Module Content

The following is an indication of the likely topics to be covered:

  • Exogenous growth models: growth models with exogenous saving rates; growth models with consumer optimisation
  • Endogenous growth models: research and development, and human capital
  • Fluctuations in economic activity; traditional classical and Keynesian theories of fluctuations
  • Fiscal policy and Ricardian equivalence
  • Inflation, time consistency and monetory policy
