Module Overview |
In this module, working in small teams, will participate in a computer based business simulation and research and produce a business plan on a business venture of their own choice. The purpose of Enterprise Workshop is to introduce students to the application of economic principles that assist decision making and problme solving in the management of organisations |

Module Aims |
- to introduce students to the skills involved in effective team working and to help them appreciate some of the problems involved
- to show students how research is conducted and to help them learn the associated techniques through active participation
- to provide an understanding of some of the skills required to establish and manage a business successfully

Learning Outcomes |
By the end of the module students will:-
- have an increased understanding of the applications of economics to modern business
- comprehend the difficulties of attracting business funding
- be able to produce an outline business plan
- demonstrate the importance of successful management to enterprise
- investigate solutions to standard business difficulties
- appreciate some of the advantages and disadvantages of working as part of a team
- have some insight into their own strengths and weaknesses
- appreciate the need to meet tight deadlines
- have developed their skills in presentation

Module Content |
The class will be divided into teams. Each team will particate in a computer based business dimulation game and produce and present a business plan. Business plans, in the past have looked into: restuarants, specialty snack, juice bars, hairdressers, internet services, nursery provision |

Methods of Teaching/Learning |
Active learning will take place by participation in both of the module activities. Each team will meet regularly to discuss their chosen business investigation, resulting in a presentation and a written report. Students will be given guidance on the content, structure and writing of a business plan. Lecturers 4 hours, business simulation 6 hours, workshops and presentation 12 hours. |
