Portfolio of Labanotated studies reflecting a dance genre within the performance studies programme. 50%

Module Overview
The module will cover the following issues:

Progression to intermediate level Laban notation.
Elementary level LMA.
Application of LMA, LN and BF to programme related modules including performance studies.
Movemenet observation practice.
Information Technology related to movement analysis, LMA and LN.
Electronic sources and resources.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites

Completion of the Movement Analysis and Anatomy course at HE1 level.

Module Aims
To progress to intermediate level Labanotation (LN)
To introduce the fundamentals of Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) including Bartenieff Fundamentals (BF)
To establish a relationship between Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and Labanotation (LN)
To investigate the application of LN and LMA to dance practice
To investigate the application of LN and LMA to dance style analysis
To review the significance of movement/dance notation to dance practice
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding:
Awareness of the role of movement analysis to the understanding of movement related activities such a performance studies;
Knowledge of BF and its relationship to dance practice;
Awareness of related electronic resources.

Cognitive/Intellectual Skills
Ability to analyse and record movement in Labanotation and Laban Moveemnt Analysis modes;
Ability to apply Laban Movement Analysis, Labanotation and BF to related programme modules including performance studies;
Ability to utilise related electronic sources and resources effectively.

Practical /Key Skills
Ability to apply LN at intermediate level;
Ability to apply LMA at elementary level;
Ability to apply LN to dance style analysis;
Ability to apply BF to dance practice;
Ability to access and utilise related resources in text and electronic form;
Ability to utilise key Labanotation software
