Module Overview

This module defines the log-keeping requirements of a Professional Training Year

Prerequisites/Co-requisites

Modules COMP002, COMP003, COMP004 & COMP005 must all be taken during Level P.

Module Aims

Module Aims

 

Students will negotiate, record and complete one year (normally two cycles) of the British Computer Society’s University Professional Development Scheme (BCS UPDS). This will involve the development of the technical and interpersonal skills necessary for the placement and adaptation to the working environment.
During the year, they will:

 

·          produce a log of the personal and professional development experience during the placement.

 

·          demonstrate that they appreciate the need for formal paperwork by ensuring that the various documents required by the Department are properly completed. These include the placement agreement and its associated documents, and the BCS UPDS forms.

A successful student will

 

·          observe the practical application of knowledge that they gained at University

 

·          learn about processes and methods which do not form part of the University programme.

 

·          develop project management skills, by observation, by being part of a team, or by taking

·          log the experiences that they have gained during the placement by means of the British Computer Society’s University Professional Development Scheme (UPDS).

 

·          demonstrate an appreciation of the need to maintain formal documentation associated with the working environment.

The student will complete the University and BCS UPDS paperwork as required.  It will be assessed by the academic staff after the end of the year.

The log book documents a year of suitable work in an industrial or commercial computing role.
