Module Overview
This module will give you an introduction to the theoretical, aesthetic and practical issues in sound design for narrative media. Subject areas will be selected from film, TV, documentaries and radio plays. You will investigate how film music functions and how it interacts with sound effects in delivering a narrative arc.

Module Aims
The aims of this module are to:

Develop an understanding of the joint roles of music and sound effects in narrative media.
Develop skills in analysing sound layering.
Give you experience in planning a complete sound design for a previously unseen project.
Build professional practice in documenting and delivering a completed sound design.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module, you should be able to:

Understand the key terms used in commercial sound design.
Analyse existing sound designs and split them by layers.
Plan, document and deliver a complete sound design for a short film project.
Deliver a professional-grade project complete with all necessary documentation.
Transferable skills:
Communicate the subject knowledge acquired during the year and demonstrate an understanding of relevant terminology.
Use and access a range of learning resources (including IT) and know how to plan work to meet deadlines.
Apply given tools and methods accurately and carefully to a well-defined problem and begin to appreciate the complexity of issues in the subject.
