Module Aims
  • To investigate a range of cutting-edge developments in bioscience subjects
  • To learn how to perform literature searches for peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • To illustrate the differences between good and bad scientific communication
  • To debate specific developments in bioscience on an ethical and scientific level
  • To develop good management and teamwork skills via the production of a bioscience magazine, and a seminar or short documentary about one of the topics included in the module
Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, you will be expected to be able to:

  • Understand the current topics of worldwide importance in major fields of bioscience
  • Identify and communicate issues of topical importance in bioscience in the form of a seminar presentation or short documentary
  • Understand the importance of using sources that provide reliable peer-reviewed information
  • Interpret and summarise scientific topics for communication to a wider audience in the form of a magazine, and a newspaper article
  • Assess and provide feedback on the performance of a peer in a selection of situations
