Module Aims
To investigate a range of cutting-edge developments in bioscience subjects
To learn how to perform literature searches for peer-reviewed scientific publications
To illustrate the differences between good and bad scientific communication
To debate specific developments in bioscience on an ethical and scientific level
To develop good management and teamwork skills via the production of a bioscience magazine, and a seminar or short documentary about one of the topics included in the module
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, you will be expected to be able to:
Understand the current topics of worldwide importance in major fields of bioscience
Identify and communicate issues of topical importance in bioscience in the form of a seminar presentation or short documentary
Understand the importance of using sources that provide reliable peer-reviewed information
Interpret and summarise scientific topics for communication to a wider audience in the form of a magazine, and a newspaper article
Assess and provide feedback on the performance of a peer in a selection of situations
