Assessment Pattern
Module Assessment will be through:

1 Completion of the 3000 word reflection concerning the management and care skills utilised in caring for a client encountered during this practice placement.
2 A successful assessment demonstrating competence to administer prescribed medication.
3 Completion of the NMC (2009) competencies (Please go to Page 16 – Practice Competency Document)

Failure to meet the required outcomes for this module will result in a failure to pass the programme. This will result in failure to achieve the award of BSc (Hons) Midwifery Studies or Registration.

Professional practice skills:

• use the framework of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2009) Standards for Pre-Registration Midwifery Education, for entry to the Midwifery Register to identify learning needs, negotiate and implement a learning agreement
• prioritise professional responsibilities and duty of care to ensure safe management of care
• use reflective learning and clinical mentorship to evaluate own practice and develop accordingly
• observe and contribute to professional meetings
• demonstrate knowledge and skills required by NMC Competencies and Skills Clusters (NMC 2009)

Values and attitudes:

• practice in an accountable manner as guided by The Code (NMC 2008)
• be aware of own values, perception, thoughts and action and the ways in which these may influence the clinical situation

Cognitive skills:

• recognise personal and professional limitations in the scope of own professional practice and address limitations and need for personal development
• evaluate the effectiveness of their learning strategies
• evaluate own practice in the light of ongoing feedback
• discuss and reflect on professional action individually and in the team
